Mortar is a cement-based building material made from cement, sand, and water, used primarily for masonry work such as laying bricks, blocks, and stone, where it provides strength, structure, and joint filling in thicker applications. Thin-set, also known as thin-set mortar, is a finely blended, cement-based adhesive specifically designed for tile installation, allowing tiles to be bonded securely to floors and walls in a thin, even layer; it offers strong adhesion and flexibility but is not intended for structural masonry or thick build-ups.
